An Elderly Man Falls to His Death During a Tragic Home Invasion in Washington Heights

An elderly man tragically fell to his death during a home invasion in Washington Heights early Saturday morning. The incident occurred when a neighbor witnessed the victim climbing out of a window and falling onto scaffolding, as reported by authorities.

According to the police, a group of burglars targeted an apartment in a residential building near 161st Street and Broadway around 4:30 a.m. The thieves gained entry after one of them climbed a fire escape, broke into a window, and allowed the other two perpetrators to enter through the front door.

The burglars proceeded to tie up a 40-year-old man and stole a gold chain valued at approximately $8,000 along with around $200 in cash.

During the chaotic robbery, the restrained man’s father, Jacinto Remigo, 73, tragically fell from the window onto construction scaffolding. Despite being rushed to Harlem Hospital, he could not be saved.

The NYPD is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s fall. A neighbor, Heriberto Garcia, mentioned to NBC 4 that Remigo attempted to use a small ledge to reach another window before the fatal incident.

Witnesses in the area recounted hearing a loud bang early in the morning, with one resident, Richard Ramsundarsingh, recalling the unsettling sound.

Neighbors expressed their sorrow and condolences for the family, with one resident, Henrique Sobrinho, describing the situation as “terrible” and extending sympathies to the grieving family.
