A video clip aired on Sky Sports showed the 51-year-old addressing the team at the Milton Keynes factory for the last time as principal.
“Yesterday, Red Bull informed me that I would no longer be involved in the operational aspects of the business or the team following this gathering,” he stated.
“I will continue to be employed by the company, but operationally, the baton will be passed on. This news came as a surprise.
“In the last 12 hours, I have had time to reflect, and I wanted to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to each and every member of the team who has contributed so much over the past 20 and a half years.”
Horner reminisced about the early days when Red Bull took over the Jaguar team in 2005, starting from scratch in rundown buildings and transforming it into a dominant force in Formula One.
“Being part of and witnessing the growth of this team has been the greatest privilege of my life,” he said, receiving applause from the gathered employees.
