Spring 2026 marks the second collaboration between Kenta Miyamoto and Kunimasa Odagi at Engineered Garments. The duo’s confidence in their new roles was evident as soon as you entered the label’s Long Island City showroom. A bold move was made with over half of the collection and showroom space being dominated by a striking black and white color scheme. From paisleys to checkers, houndstooths, and stripes, every graphic imaginable was incorporated into this lineup.

The decision to focus on black and white as the primary aesthetic for the collection was a successful one. Engineered Garments has a history of blending visual elements in their designs, and this season’s choice gave the collection a cohesive and organized feel. Drawing inspiration from The Specials’ 1979 debut album, Special, the collection also featured models sporting checkered black-and-white slip-on shoes, a style that has recently regained popularity in the fashion world.

While a third of the collection introduced vibrant colors, creating a striking contrast in the showroom and lookbook, there was a clear distinction between the black-and-white pieces and the colorful ones. This decision prevented the collection from feeling like a mere gimmick of showcasing both black-and-white and colorful designs separately. Instead, it created two distinct yet equally appealing collections.
