The Controversial Friendship Between Jes Staley and Jeffrey Epstein
In recently leaked emails between Jes Staley and Jeffrey Epstein, Staley referred to their friendship as “profound” and even went as far as calling Epstein “family.”
One email exchange from 2010 revealed Staley telling Epstein, “That was fun. Say hi to Snow White.” When Epstein asked what character he would like next, Staley replied, “Beauty and the Beast.”
Their relationship was reportedly so close that Staley made multiple trips to Epstein’s Caribbean island and was a frequent guest at his New York mansion.
However, in June 2025, the Financial Conduct Authority in Britain banned Staley for life from holding executive positions after discovering that he had lied about the extent of his relationship with Epstein. Epstein’s death in 2019 was ruled a suicide.
Staley had previously resigned from Barclays in 2021 due to concerns about how he had portrayed his connection to Epstein to the bank and regulators.
There were also allegations surrounding Staley’s involvement with All Souls church, with claims that he may have made a significant donation to secure a seat in the exclusive pews. Church leaders refused to disclose this information.
Additionally, reports suggested that specific members were selected to greet Staley and make him feel comfortable during services, causing discomfort among other congregants.
Some members noted that Staley’s behavior during services was inappropriate, as he would frequently be on his phone and showed little sign of introspection. He attended alone and carried himself as someone accustomed to elite spaces accommodating him.
It was also observed that Staley’s sudden interest in organized religion coincided with high-profile cases involving Epstein, leading some to believe that he was using religious affiliation as a way to signal seriousness and rehabilitation.
Overall, the moral burden seemed to shift away from Staley and onto those around him in the church.
