Eric Dane Opens Up About ALS Diagnosis and Acting Career
Eric Dane, known for his roles in various TV shows and movies, recently revealed that he has been diagnosed with ALS. Despite facing challenges with mobility, Dane remains determined to continue acting and raising awareness about the disease.
In a candid interview, Dane shared, “From here on out, it’s going to have to be ALS-centric. It’s going to be very difficult for me to play any other role. I’m fine with that. I’m grateful that I can still work in any capacity.”
One of Dane’s final acting roles was in an episode of NBC’s Brilliant Minds, where he portrayed a firefighter named Matthew who was battling ALS. In a poignant scene with his character’s doctor, Matthew expressed the harsh reality of the disease, stating, “Nobody survives this. We both know that, and I know how to take care of my family,” as his loved ones watched on.
The emotional performance by Dane received high praise from the cast and crew, with the show’s creator, Michael Grassi, revealing that Dane received a 10-minute standing ovation after the scene was filmed. “I have never seen this happen in my entire career…because it was so beautiful and so honest and so real,” Grassi said in an interview.
Despite the challenges posed by his ALS diagnosis, Eric Dane continues to inspire others with his resilience and dedication to his craft. His openness about his journey with the disease serves as a reminder of the importance of raising awareness and supporting those affected by ALS.
