Cup Series driver Erik Jones is set to make an appearance in the upcoming Xfinity Series race at Sonoma Raceway on July 12. However, this time he will not be behind the wheel. Instead, his full-time spotter at the Cup level, Will Rodgers, will be taking on the role of the driver for the No. 70 entry for Cope Family Racing. Jones will be supporting Rodgers from atop the pit box during the race.
This race will mark Rodgersâ first Cup Series start since 2023 and fans can catch all the action live on CW starting at 4:30 pm ET. They can also tune in to the radio coverage on PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Excited about Rodgersâ return to the Xfinity Series, Jones took to Twitter to express his anticipation, saying, âExcited to see @willrodgers65 back at it in the Xfinity series. Hopefully he won’t mind me in his ear for this weekendâŠâ
While Jones will be gearing up for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 race scheduled for the following day, he is currently under a multi-year contract with Legacy Motor Club to drive the No. 43 Toyota Camry beyond 2025.
Jones, who is yet to secure a win in the 2025 season, is determined to change that statistic. Currently, he holds the 17th position in the driver standings with 393 points.
The Toyota/Save Mart 350 race, where Jones will be competing, will be broadcasted live on TNT Sports on July 13 at 3:30 pm ET. PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio will provide live radio updates during the event.
In a recent press conference, Jones shared his thoughts on Legacy Motor Clubâs progress and their potential to compete with top teams like JGR and Penske. Despite not securing a win yet this year, Jones has shown consistent improvement and believes that they are just âone step awayâ from reaching the level of the top teams in the series.
With a couple of top-five finishes and three top-10s in the 19 races he has competed in this year, Jones is confident that a win is within reach. He emphasized the importance of attention to detail in racing and credited the team for their efforts in fine-tuning the race cars. He believes that they are on the cusp of breaking through and competing with the best in the business.
Last week in Chicago, Jones finished 25th while Nemechek secured a 15th position. All eyes are now on Sonoma Raceway, where the next race is set to take place on the 12-turn racetrack in California.
As Jones and his team continue to strive for their first win of the season, the upcoming races will be crucial in determining their success. Fans can look forward to seeing Jones in action as he pushes towards victory in the competitive world of NASCAR.
