Eli Russell Linnetz Unveils Hollywood-Inspired Fashion Narrative
As Eli Russell Linnetz’s 1970s movie project moves into pre-production, he remains focused on the production of his fashion narrative. The ERL pre-spring collection, titled Hollywood Forever, is set in 1983 on the Sunset Strip and tells the story of vampires living in Hollywood in the ’80s. This collection marks a departure from Linnetz’s usual bright and colorful designs, with a focus on intense black pieces that capture the darker side of LA.
The collection serves as wearable scenography for the tale of Penny, a young aspiring actress from Pittsburgh who finds herself entangled in a vampire underworld upon arriving in LA. Linnetz’s designs draw inspiration from a mix of Lost Boys and Rebel Without A Cause aesthetics, blending grunge and rock influences with teenage rebellion.
Key pieces in the collection include a black tank featuring heat-pressed letters from the Hollywood sign, wide-shouldered suits with wetsuit construction details, and collars designed to stand out. Prints of iconic Hollywood figures like Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, and James Dean adorn suits and bikers, adding a touch of vintage glamour to the edgy ensembles.
Linnetz’s collection also includes caps labeled with titles like Actor and Director, soon to be showcased by notable industry figures in an upcoming campaign. Hand-painted images of Elvis and other rock legends decorate biker jackets, while alpaca mohair sweaters and plaid shirting add texture and depth to the collection.
Other standout pieces include keychain belts, cuff necklaces, and jewelry by Tom Binns, all handmade in California. Linnetz describes his creative process as a form of self-expression and nostalgia, drawing inspiration from his childhood memories and favorite films to shape his unique perspective on the world.
