Jonathan Knight, a Denver-based artist, has a unique approach to capturing the beauty of waterfalls in the wilderness. While most hikers are heading back to their cars, Knight chooses to start photographing about 45 minutes after sunset. This allows him to capture the serene beauty of waterfalls as they cascade down rocky cliffs, with the mist creating an ethereal atmosphere.

Venturing deep into the forest alone, Knight often finds himself walking back to his car in the dark, with only a camera on his back and a headlamp to light the way. Despite the spooky encounters of glowing eyes in the darkness, Knight remains undeterred, finding solace in the presence of friendly wildlife like elk and deer.

In 2022, Knight embarked on a project to document waterfalls across California, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado. Using his signature minimal style, he focused on capturing the shape of the water against negative space, emphasizing the natural beauty of the cascading falls. The resulting series, titled “Waterfalls,” showcases the stunning landscapes in a simplistic yet powerful way.

For those interested in owning a piece of Knight’s work, prints of the “Waterfalls” series are available on his website. The collection offers a glimpse into the artist’s unique perspective on nature and his ability to capture its raw beauty through photography.

Follow Jonathan Knight on Instagram to stay updated on his latest projects and adventures in the wilderness. Whether you’re a nature lover, art enthusiast, or simply appreciate the beauty of the great outdoors, Knight’s work is sure to captivate and inspire.
