Matt Gaetz Withdraws His Name from Consideration for Attorney General
In a statement posted to X on Thursday, November 21, Matt Gaetz announced his decision to withdraw his name from consideration for the position of Attorney General. Gaetz cited the need to avoid distractions and ensure a smooth transition for the upcoming Trump/Vance administration as the primary reasons for his withdrawal.
Gaetz stated, “While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1.”
Despite withdrawing his name from consideration, Gaetz expressed his continued support for President Trump, pledging to work towards ensuring his success as the most successful President in history. Gaetz also expressed gratitude for being nominated to lead the Department of Justice by President Trump and voiced confidence in Trump’s ability to “Save America.”
