Returning Cast Members
However, not all original cast members will be back. Barbie Ferreira announced in August 2022 that she would not reprise her role as Kat in the upcoming season. She expressed her emotional farewell on Instagram, saying, “After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character, Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye. I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did, and that [it] brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her, and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you, Katherine Hernandez.”
Given that her role was significantly reduced in Season 2, this news was somewhat expected. In a 2023 interview on the Armchair Expert podcast, Ferreira expressed her concerns regarding Kat’s storyline, saying, “I don’t think there was a place for [Kat] to go. I think there were places she could have gone; I just don’t think it would have fit into the show. I don’t know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that.”
In July 2023, Angus Cloud, who portrayed the introspective Fezco, tragically passed away due to an accidental overdose at the age of 25. Following his death, tributes flooded in from co-stars and fans alike, who are now left to speculate about the fate of Cloud’s character. Fez’s storyline ended on a cliffhanger in Season 2 (spoiler alert), featuring a tense shoot-out with police that left him wounded and subsequently arrested. His younger brother, Ashtray, as played by Javon Walton, seemed to meet a tragic end in the same incident.
