Residents in Lyttelton near Christchurch are currently being evacuated due to a large fire that has broken out in the township.
Fire crews responded to the blaze just after 5 pm and discovered that it had completely engulfed two homes and was spreading to a third.
At present, six fire engines, a ladder truck, a water tanker, and a command unit are on-site working diligently to bring the fire under control.
A spokesperson for Fire and Emergency New Zealand has confirmed that there were no individuals inside the affected properties at the time of the incident.
As a precaution, the police are overseeing the evacuation of houses in the surrounding area, and the public is advised to steer clear of the fire for safety reasons.
