Nikola Jokic, the reigning MVP of the NBA, recently sparked controversy by sitting out a crucial game against the Golden State Warriors. Despite the backlash he received for his absence, former player Lou Williams supported the Denver Nuggets’ decision to rest their star player. Jokic had been dealing with ankle and elbow injuries and the team felt it was necessary to give him a break after a busy schedule.

During an episode of FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back” show, Williams explained that the Nuggets were likely preparing Jokic for their upcoming matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers. With the Lakers trailing the Nuggets by just one game in the standings, Denver wanted to ensure that their key players were fully rested and ready for the important game.

Despite criticism from fans and analysts, the Nuggets managed to secure a victory against the Warriors, with Aaron Gordon leading the charge with a 38-point performance. While Jokic’s absence may have disappointed some, it was a strategic decision made with the team’s long-term goals in mind.

However, not everyone was as understanding as Williams. NBA analyst Tim Bontemps expressed his disapproval of Jokic sitting out, calling it a “horrible look for the league.” Bontemps emphasized the importance of players participating in games, especially as the playoffs approach.

It is worth noting that Jokic has been known for his durability and commitment to playing every game. His absence due to injuries should not be perceived as a lack of dedication, but rather a necessary precaution to ensure he is healthy for the postseason. Like other star players in the league, Jokic deserves the opportunity to rest and recover when needed.

In conclusion, while Jokic’s absence may have caused some controversy, it was a decision made with the team’s best interests in mind. As the NBA playoffs draw nearer, teams must prioritize the health and well-being of their players to ensure success in the postseason.
