A former south suburban police officer, Tory Bridgeforth, has been arrested by Cook County Sheriff’s Police for allegedly raping a teenage girl and paying her to create child pornography. This shocking arrest came just one day before Bridgeforth’s trial for pending child pornography charges was set to begin. The arrest led to new charges of criminal sexual assault by force and solicitation of child sexual abuse material, and Judge Luciano Panici, Sr. ordered him detained on these charges.
The investigation into Bridgeforth began in late 2022 after Yahoo! submitted a tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding suspected child pornography found on its servers. Investigators were able to link Bridgeforth to the materials as he had emailed them to himself using his Yahoo! account, which he admitted to having sole access to.
During a forensic examination of one of the three phones seized at the time of his arrest, approximately 19 videos and 15 images depicting child victims, some of whom were sexually assaulted, were discovered. Prosecutors revealed that Bridgeforth was employed as a Robbins police officer when he transmitted the child pornography. They also mentioned a disturbing incident in July 2019 where Bridgeforth, then a Robbins police sergeant, made contact with three juveniles during a call and engaged in inappropriate behavior with them. Despite forensic interviews with the juveniles, no criminal charges were filed at the time.
During his bond hearing, Bridgeforth’s defense attorney claimed that the child pornography situation was a “misunderstanding” and that Bridgeforth had been the one reporting the materials. However, prosecutors disputed this claim, stating that Bridgeforth refused to provide a passcode to a second phone that contained disturbing videos involving a 12-year-old relative engaged in sexual acts with a male relative.
Despite these troubling allegations, Judge Susana Ortiz set bail at $1 million and ordered Bridgeforth onto electronic monitoring if he posted the 10% deposit bond. However, a month later, Judge Patrick Coughlin reduced bail to $500,000, allowing Bridgeforth to go home with an ankle monitor by posting a $50,000 deposit. By May 2024, all electronic monitoring requirements were removed.
In the latest set of allegations, prosecutors accuse Bridgeforth of sexually assaulting a girl and paying her to create child sexual abuse material while he was out on bail. A CyberTip from a member of the public prompted an investigation into Bridgeforth’s relationship with a 16-year-old girl. The girl initially denied any involvement, but a forensic examination of her phone revealed messages and videos exchanged between her and Bridgeforth in exchange for money.
The victim’s mother provided additional evidence, including the girl’s older phone and CashApp account, showing numerous transactions with Bridgeforth. During a second forensic interview, the girl described multiple occasions where Bridgeforth sexually assaulted her at Lan-Oak Park in Lansing after she texted him for money.
Bridgeforth does not have any prior felony convictions, but he does have a disorderly conduct conviction from 2018. Despite this, the new allegations against him paint a disturbing picture of his behavior. The case is ongoing, and Bridgeforth will face justice for his actions.
