Former MLB pitcher Brian Matusz has tragically passed away at the young age of 37. The Baltimore Orioles, Matusz’s team, announced the heartbreaking news on Tuesday evening, although the cause of death has not been disclosed.

Matusz, a former first-round pick, made his Major League debut in 2009 but truly made his mark in 2010 when he threw 175.2 innings for the Orioles. Over his eight-year career in the MLB, Matusz accumulated a 27-41 record with a 4.92 ERA and 462 strikeouts.

The University of San Diego, where Matusz played college baseball, fondly remembered him as one of the best players to ever wear a Torero uniform. The university expressed their condolences and highlighted Matusz’s dedication to the USD community and his passion for the game of baseball.

The outpouring of love and support for Matusz has been overwhelming, with tributes pouring in from fans, teammates, and the baseball community at large. The Baltimore Orioles tweeted a heartfelt message, expressing their sorrow at the loss of a beloved member of the Orioles family.

“Brian’s family and loved ones are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time,” the team shared.

Head coach Brock Ungricht also paid tribute to Matusz, saying, “His dedication to the USD community and passion for the game of baseball were evident to all who knew him. Brian’s unexpected passing leaves a void in our hearts, but his legacy will continue to inspire us, both on and off the field.”

Matusz’s unexpected death has left a profound impact on all who knew him, and his legacy will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those he touched. Rest in peace, Brian Matusz.
