Former Green Bay Packers linebacker Brady Poppinga is taking legal action against a Southern California hospital and several of its doctors, alleging that their negligence led to the tragic death of his teenage son, Julius Poppinga, last year.
According to the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles, the Poppinga family brought Julius to Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center on August 27, 2023, after he experienced chest pains and breathing difficulties. Despite receiving care in the ICU, Julius’ condition did not improve.
On August 29, Julius was in and out of consciousness, struggling to breathe. At one point, he expressed fear and tearfully told his mother, Brooke, that he thought he was going to die. Despite these alarming symptoms, a doctor at the hospital reportedly misdiagnosed Julius with a panic attack and prescribed medication. Tragically, Julius passed away shortly after.
An autopsy later revealed that Julius died of a pulmonary embolism. The Poppingas are now seeking justice for their son, filing a wrongful death lawsuit citing medical negligence and other claims. They are requesting unspecified damages for their loss.
The Poppingas have been vocal about Julius’ passing, with Brooke describing him as a compassionate and joyful individual. Their legal battle serves as a reminder of the importance of proper medical care and the devastating consequences of medical errors.
