Two former Penn State football players, Jameial Lyons and Kaveion Keys, are facing charges of felony rape, aggravated indecent assault, and sexual assault following an alleged incident in July. According to criminal dockets, both players are scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on July 7 when a student reported a sexual assault in a residence hall on Penn State’s campus. Lyons, a 19-year-old from Philadelphia, is facing charges of rape, aggravated assault without consent, voluntary deviate sexual intercourse, and other misdemeanor charges. Keys, also 19, from Richmond, Virginia, is facing charges of rape, aggravated indecent assault without consent, sexual assault, and a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault without consent of others.

Lyons and Keys are no longer part of the Penn State football team. They were placed on interim suspension on July 31 to address a “personal matter,” and it was later confirmed that they were no longer with the team. Penn State has stated that they are aware of the charges against the former players and take reports of sexual assault very seriously.

The university emphasized that the safety of the community is their top priority and that they investigate all reports of sexual assault or misconduct. The two players were expected to have significant roles in the Nittany Lions’ defense before the allegations surfaced.

A preliminary hearing for Lyons and Keys is scheduled for October 30. The case continues to unfold as the legal process progresses.
