A New Jersey teenager has come forward to speak out about his relationship with his former teacher, Laura Caron, who he allegedly fathered a child with when he was just 13 years old. The now 19-year-old teen insists that the sexual relationship was his idea and that Caron should not be facing charges, expressing his hope that they can someday be a family.
The teen, who remains unnamed, told DailyMail.com that he was not groomed, raped, or manipulated by Caron and that she never initiated anything. He stated, “I started everything. If it was up to me, she wouldn’t have been in jail. It’s been six or seven years. I’m 19, about to be 20.”
Despite the teen’s assertions, prosecutors have charged Caron with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child, with the possibility of facing more than 10 years behind bars. The legal age of consent in New Jersey is 16, and it is illegal for teachers or individuals with a duty of care over children to engage in sexual relationships with minors of any age.
Caron, who was a fifth-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School Number 2 in southern New Jersey, gave birth in 2019 when she was in her late 20s. The paternity of the child remained unknown until the teen’s father, the baby’s grandfather, noticed the striking resemblance between Caron’s daughter, himself, and his son in a Facebook post in December 2024. Subsequent investigations confirmed that the teen was indeed the father.
The relationship between Caron and the teen began when he was living under her roof, barely a teenager at the time of conception. The boy’s sister recounted instances where she would go to sleep with her brother in the same room but wake up to find him in Caron’s bed. Authorities revealed that the siblings even lived permanently with Caron between 2016 and 2020, sharing a bedroom.
While Caron awaits trial, she has been released on bail but is prohibited from contacting the teenager. He expressed his frustration at not being able to visit his daughter since Caron’s arrest in January. Despite the circumstances, the teen maintains that Caron was a positive influence in his life, stating, “I love her with all my heart. She was there for me and my family.”
Caron’s attorney, John Tumelty, has not provided a response to the media regarding the case. The situation remains complex, with legal proceedings ongoing and the implications of the relationship between Caron and the teen continuing to unfold.
