Strengthening Ties: Vice President Vance’s Visit to Italy
During a recent visit to Italy, U.S. Vice President JD Vance met with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini in Rome, reinforcing the existing bonds between the United States and Italy.
I’m grateful every day for this job, but particularly today where my official duties have brought me to Rome on Good Friday. I had a great meeting with Prime Minister Meloni and her team, and will head to church soon with my family in this beautiful city.

“I’m grateful every day for this job, but particularly today where my official duties have brought me to Rome on Good Friday. I had a great meeting with Prime Minister Meloni and her team, and will head to church soon with my family in this beautiful city. I wish all Christians around the world, especially those back home in the U.S., a blessed Good Friday. He died so that we might live.”
Yet, the journey didn’t end there. Vance’s itinerary included participation in Easter celebrations at the Vatican.

Following his attendance at the Good Friday mass at St. Peter’s Basilica on Saturday, Vance engaged senior Vatican officials in discussions, particularly in light of Pope Francis’s previous critiques of the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
CNN reported:
“The Vatican stated that during the meeting, an ‘exchange of opinions’ took place concerning migrants, refugees, and prisoners.
The Vice President, a practicing Catholic, was visiting Rome with his family over the Easter weekend and attended a Good Friday service in St. Peter’s Basilica.”

During this visit, Vance also met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Holy See Secretary of State, and Archbishop Paul Gallagher, the Vatican’s foreign minister.
“There was an exchange of opinions on the international situation, especially regarding countries affected by war, political tensions, and difficult humanitarian situations, with particular attention to migrants, refugees, and prisoners,” stated a Vatican communique following the meeting.
Vance’s office subsequently released its own summary, noting that the Vice President and Parolin discussed ‘their shared religious faith, the state of Catholicism in the United States, the plight of persecuted Christian communities worldwide, and President Trump’s commitment to restoring global peace’.”

Prior to the Saturday discussions, Parolin remarked to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica that the “current U.S. administration is very different from what we are used to and, particularly in the West, from what we have relied on for many years.”
Later that day, it was revealed that Vance had a brief, private meeting with the ailing Pope Francis.
