However, in her upcoming memoir, 107 Days, she reveals that her husband, Doug Emhoff, seemingly forgot about her special day, which culminated in an argument that tested their relationship.
On October 20, after a long day of campaigning, Harris anticipated a special evening with Emhoff in Philadelphia, arranged by their staff. âI was excited to see what he would have planned for our evening,â she said in the memoir. Yet, her hopes were dashed as she bluntly stated, âThe simple answer: Nothing. Not a thing.â

Emhoffâs apparent forgetfulness regarding his wifeâs birthday was a major issue.
Complicating matters, Emhoff did not manage to arrange a gift for Harris and thought he could remedy the situation by re-gifting an old necklace. Upon discovering the engraving on the jewelry, Harris noted, âWhen I turned it over, I saw that the pearlsâ backing had been engraved with the date. How thoughtful, commemorating my big birthday.â But her mood quickly shifted upon realizing that the date commemorated their wedding anniversary and not her birthday. âHe obviously planned to gift both pieces on our anniversary but decided to cut corners,â she confessed.

The couple, who have been married since 2014, faced a tough moment.
Harris attempted to unwind by drawing a bath for herself, but soon realized all the towels were on the opposite side of the room. She called for Emhoff, but he was engrossed in the Dodgers vs. Mets playoff game. In her moment of frustration, she picked up her phone and called him, only for him to nonchalantly answer, âWhatâs up?â which was the tipping point for Harris.
Reflecting on the dispute, she stated, âWe got into it. The stress had finally caught up to us. It was one of those fights all married couples experience, but we werenât just any married couple.â

Now, living a quieter life post-election, the couple continues to prioritize their relationship.
Emhoff played a pivotal role in de-escalating the situation. âDoug halted the argument abruptly. As soon as his words landed, their significance hit me like cold water,â Harris recalled. ââWe canât turn on each other.â His realization helped us understand that during challenging times, we needed to stay unitedâsword and shield together against outside pressures,â she expressed.
Since that day, Harris noted, Emhoff has taken to leaving love notes on her pillow each night, reaffirming his love and commitment to her.
