Justice for the tragically murdered child beauty queen JonBenét Ramsey is “fading away” with the recent passing of legendary homicide investigator Tom Haney Jr., who relentlessly pursued her killer since her shocking death in 1996, RadarOnline.com reports. Haney, who was 77, passed away unexpectedly while playing golf on August 19.
The detective was well-known for his efforts to interrogate and draw a confession from JonBenet’s heartbroken mother, Patsy Ramsey, during the probing investigations.
Justice Is Fading For JonBenét Ramsey
Tom Haney Jr. adds to a growing list of casualties in the JonBenet Ramsey case.
Haney’s passing adds to a grim list of key figures connected to the investigation who have died since the little pageant queen was murdered at her family home in Boulder, Colorado, on Christmas Day 1996. JonBenet was only six years old when she was abducted, sexually assaulted, and brutally killed in a case that captivated the nation.
As a seasoned investigator noted, “These people are dying, and justice is just fading away.” This sentiment reflects a palpable concern for the future of the ongoing investigation. “With all the witnesses passing, prosecuting this case will be incredibly challenging should an arrest finally occur,” the investigator stated.
The list of deceased includes JonBenet’s mother, Patsy, who tragically succumbed to ovarian cancer in 2006; Lou Smit, a retired detective hired by JonBenet’s father, John Ramsey, who passed in 2010; and Bill McReynolds, a family friend and person of interest, who died in 2002.

Last year, the neighbor who heard JonBenet’s agonizing scream before her death also passed away at the age of 77. John Ramsey commended Haney for his reliability, particularly because the Boulder Police Department was uniquely positioned to target Patsy as the chief suspect.
“It’s fortunate that some outside professionals like Haney resisted the herd mentality,” John Ramsey remarked to RadarOnline.com.

John Ramsey praises Haney’s integrity following the detective’s passing.
Despite the ominous developments, John Ramsey remains optimistic about finding closure. He urges RadarOnline.com readers to support the GoFundMe campaign — JonBenet: Lou Smit’s Family Searches for Justice — established by Lou Smit’s daughter, along with fellow investigators aiming to utilize DNA analysis to solve the case.
“I have not heard that the police have granted any outside labs access to the crime scene evidence for further DNA testing,” John expressed to RadarOnline.com. “I believe that a forensic genealogy effort is our best chance to finally get justice for our daughter.”
