Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos has been under scrutiny for recently praising Meghan Markle in conjunction with Prince Harryâs anticipated documentary that will commemorate the 30th anniversary of Princess Dianaâs death, RadarOnline.com reports.
Sarandos described Markleâs influence as âremarkableâ and labeled the Sussexesâ Netflix endeavors as âsuccessful in every measure,â despite the lukewarm reception to Markleâs recent lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan, which has reportedly failed to make a significant impact in global rankings.

Sarandos Commends Markle Amid Criticism
Sarandos lauded Markle even though her shows have seen low viewership ratings.
The remarks were shared during the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast and represent his first public comments following the Sussexes signing a revised âfirst-lookâ partnership with Netflix earlier in August.
An informed industry insider suggested: âItâs no accident that Sarandos is suddenly effusive about Meghan. With Harryâs clandestine plans for a Diana documentary in the works, Netflix is keen to secure it. They realize it will be controversial, but also a massive draw. The flattery aims to keep the couple on board and finalize that project.â
Another insider added: âInside Netflix, thereâs little enthusiasm for Markleâs recent works on flower arrangements and jam-making. Their primary concern is the assured global audience Harry brings when it involves anything related to Diana.â

The Sussexesâ Netflix Agreement and Upcoming Ventures
Analysts characterize the Sussexesâ revised Netflix contract as a decline in terms of content production.
The initial $100 million deal with Netflix, established in 2020 after their departure from royal duties, resulted in shows like the 2022 success Harry & Meghan, as well as Heart of Invictus and Live to Lead.
The updated contract, viewed by some as a âdowngrade,â still allows Netflix exclusive rights for prospective film and TV projects from the couple.
Besides content on Markleâs lifestyle, the new offerings will include a holiday special and a documentary focused on orphaned children in Uganda.
Sarandos commented on Markleâs influence, stating, âOne thing we learned early with Meghan⊠she has remarkable influence â remarkable.â He defended the Harry & Meghan docuseries, calling it âone of the most-viewed documentaries weâve ever had,â asserting it was âsuccessful in every measure.â
However, the feedback for Markleâs newest series has been far less kind. Critics labeled the second season of With Love, Meghan, featuring personalities such as Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, and Tan France, as âmeaninglessâ and âso contrived,â and criticized Markle as a âMontecito Marie Antoinette.â

Despite the mixed reactions, Sarandos emphasized Markleâs ability to generate interest, citing the impressive consumer response to merchandise showcased on her show.
However, insiders suggest this positive narrative serves primarily to facilitate Harryâs upcoming documentary focused on Diana â news first uncovered by RadarOnline.com in early 2025 as the anniversary of Dianaâs death approaches.
A source involved in the discussions noted: âHarryâs Diana documentary, while potentially morbid, is undoubtedly marketable. It will mark 30 years since her passing, assuring international media coverage. Netflix wants to secure that content and not see it go elsewhere, hence the extravagant praise for Meghan.â

Harry aims to share his perspective on his motherâs legacy, evaluating the dynamics of her relationship with King Charles.
Insiders indicate that Harry, 41, seeks to present a narrative of his motherâs journey, revealing his experiences with the royal family and the media. Some believe it may also critique his father, King Charles, regarding his tumultuous marriage to Diana.
âThis is precisely the kind of captivating content Netflix craves,â a source explained. âHence the heightened praises for Meghan, even when her shows fail to attract sizable audiences.â
