An NYPD detective has come under scrutiny for allegedly attending the Ryder Cup golf tournament in full tactical gear, proclaiming he was on security detail for President Trumpâall while he was reportedly on medical leave, according to reports from The Post.
Detective Melvin Eng is now facing administrative charges for theft of services after it was revealed that he made his way into the tournament, only to be caught when he accidentally dropped his firearm magazine in front of authentic security personnel, as per law enforcement insiders and internal NYPD documents.
âYouâre claiming to be sick, yet here you are at the Ryder Cup?â remarked one irate senior officer about Eng’s alleged behavior. âThatâs unacceptable. Itâs theft of services because you entered for free while falsely stating you were on duty for Donald Trump.â
Eng, 46, who serves as the president of the NYPD Asian Jade Society, allegedly arrived at the Farmingdale tournament last Friday fully equipped and claimed he was assigned to provide security for the visiting president.
Sources disclosed that Eng even asserted he was affiliated with federal security, which enabled him to gain access to the popular event until his blunder of dropping his magazine led to his ejection and a consequent suspension the following Monday, according to NYPD paperwork.
âWhat if he had harmful intentions?â questioned another police source. âHe bypassed the Secret Service and state police with his firearm.â
When contacted via phone on Wednesday, Eng responded, âIâm sorry, I have to go,â before hanging up on a reporter.
The NYPD has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding this incident.
