Chicago Police Warn of Fake Rideshare Driver’s Sexual Assaults
Chicago police have issued a warning to the public regarding a man posing as a rideshare driver who sexually assaulted two women in separate incidents on the city’s Near North Side.
Both victims were picked up by the assailant in a black midsize SUV that did not match the rideshare vehicle they had requested. Once inside the vehicle, they were sexually assaulted.
The first attack took place around 5 a.m. on March 30 in the 1100 block of North Lake Shore Drive in the Gold Coast neighborhood. The second incident occurred just after 2 a.m. on July 19 in the 1500 block of North Wells Street in Old Town.
The suspect is described as a short Hispanic man aged between 35 and 45 years old with a heavy build.
Authorities are advising women to verify license plate information and driver photos before entering a rideshare vehicle. It is also recommended to share trip details with trusted contacts and stay in communication throughout the ride.
