Kentucky Crypto Entrepreneur Claims Innocence in Kidnapping and Torture Plot
A Kentucky crypto entrepreneur, John Woeltz, has been accused of a heinous kidnapping and torture plot, but a relative of his claims that he is innocent and being manipulated by someone else. Woeltz, who was held without bail on kidnapping and other charges for allegedly physically abusing and trying to extort an Italian businessman, is said to be “an easy victim” who was forced into the situation, according to the relative.
The relative described Woeltz as a kind, caring, and loving person who was completely controlled by other people. Despite being worth $100 million, Woeltz was allegedly manipulated and scammed by others, leading to his involvement in the disturbing incident.
The relative emphasized that Woeltz is easily manipulated and that several people close to him have expressed that he was “railroaded” and his life was hijacked by someone else. The relative further claimed that Woeltz was a victim of manipulation and that his money may have been stolen as well.
Woeltz, who owns a private jet and a helicopter, was forced to hand over his passport during an appearance in Manhattan Criminal Court. Authorities are still seeking at least one other suspect in connection with the case.
During Woeltz’s arraignment, Assistant District Attorney Michael Mattson detailed the abuse allegations, including threats to kill the victim’s family in Italy and a harrowing incident where the victim was dangled over the ledge of a penthouse staircase in an attempt to extract account passwords.
