INDIANAPOLIS, IND — A family member of a truck driver who was reportedly allegedly assaulted by former NFL player Mark Sanchez outside a bar in Indianapolis has provided an update regarding his health status.
“He’s doing alright,” relatives of the 69-year-old grease truck driver, known only by his initials PT, informed The Post late Sunday.
“We’re consulting with attorneys first. We want to be cautious about what we say. We appreciate the concern,” the family expressed, revealing they were stunned by the attack on their loved one by the former Jets quarterback.
Disturbing images of the alleged victim showed him recovering in a hospital bed with a neck brace and severe wounds on his cheek and jaw.
“His family mentioned that he sustained cuts from the altercation that pierced through his cheek and impacted his tongue,” Fox59 anchor Angela Ganote noted, sharing the images on social media.
The incident reportedly escalated shortly after midnight on Saturday, when the truck driver parked his vehicle in an alley to collect cooking oil from a nearby hotel, as detailed in an affidavit obtained by Fox59.
Sanchez, 38, is said to have approached the driver while appearing to be under the influence of alcohol and slurring his words, according to the affidavit.
“PT was unable to use his hearing aids because of the noise from his truck when exchanging frying oil for the hotel, necessitating him to lean in closer to Mr. Sanchez to hear him,” the affidavit stated.
“As PT leaned in, he noticed that Mr. Sanchez had a strong smell of alcohol and his speech was noticeably slurred,” the affidavit added.
It is claimed that Sanchez forcefully slammed the driver against the wall and then onto the ground, leading to the driver using a knife in self-defense.
The former Jets quarterback was initially in critical condition after being hospitalized but has since recovered and been released.
Sanchez was discharged from the hospital Sunday morning after receiving treatment for stab wounds to his chest, TMZ reported.
After leaving the hospital, he was immediately taken to central booking at the Marion County Jail, facing charges of public intoxication and battery while still under treatment.
He reportedly posted a $300 cash bond before being formally booked.
Sanchez informed authorities that he has no recollection of the altercation, according to the arrest affidavit.
