Bipin Joshi, a student from Nepal, embarked on a journey to Israel to study agriculture. Unfortunately, this quest for knowledge took a tragic turn when, merely three weeks into his stay, he was captured by Hamas and taken to Gaza.
In the wake of the heartbreaking news that Bipin’s remains had been returned, his family released a poignant statement.
“Just a week ago, we had shared a video indicating our son Bipin was alive. Filmed in Hamas tunnels roughly a month after the events of October 7th, it depicted him speaking and appearing healthy. We held on to that glimmer of hope, dreaming of his return one day.
However, we were met with devastating news today—our beloved son, Bipin, who was more than just a brother to Pushpa, was killed during his captivity.
The ground has crumbled beneath us; the void he has left is unbearable, one that started two years ago and has now deepened eternally.
Bipin embarked on this journey filled with enthusiasm for a year of learning in Israel. Little did we know that our last embrace would be so final.
We can now publicly say: Bipin, you are a hero! The grenade you bravely deflected before your abduction spared the lives of your friends. How terrified we were that they would learn of your bravery and bring you harm; we could only pray for your survival.
Before your capture, you encouraged your cousin to remain resilient and to always look ahead, a sentiment now painfully poignant.
It’s difficult to envision a future without you, Bipin. Each flower in our garden, every orchard, and field we plant in your memory will forever remind us of you. You have become a part of Nepal’s landscape, and now you are intertwined with Israel’s as well.
We extend our gratitude to President Trump, the governments of the United States, Israel, and Nepal, alongside everyone who played a part in bringing our son back, completing this tragic journey.
Our hearts ache knowing you will never grasp the extent of our struggle to bring you home, nor how much the people of Israel and Nepal, along with the brave IDF soldiers, fought for you. We clung to the hope that the day would come when we would all return together.
As you return to your rest, we vow to continue fighting—not for you, as you are gone, but for our sanity, for the strength to rise each morning, and for a future as you envisioned it.
Rest peacefully, our beloved. We will forever love you.” May Bipin’s memory be a blessing.
