The much-loved “whip around” format is making its way into the local pre-game show lineup. This exciting development comes from the FanDuel Sports Network, an ensemble of 15 regional sports outlets formerly under the Fox umbrella. The new program, titled “FanDuel Sports Network Countdown Live”, will kick off on Monday, October 27, at 5:30 p.m. This hour-long show will be helmed by the experienced Stan Verrett, bringing fans the latest in the lead-up to pivotal games across the network’s array of sports offerings.

“We have the unique capability to highlight our games spanning three major sports—NBA, NHL, and MLB—using all the resources available to us, from our broadcasting trucks to the play-by-play commentary and game talent,” notes Norby Williamson, president of programming and production at the Main Street Sports Group, which oversees the FanDuel-branded networks. “It’s clear that we should create a whip-around style format to promote the games happening that evening.”

Excitingly, the show may extend its coverage beyond just FanDuel affiliates. Williamson mentions that Main Street is engaging in discussions with other regional sports networks to incorporate their matchups into this dynamic format, granting baseball, hockey, and basketball fans a comprehensive view of that night’s activities across the leagues. Moreover, the program might also be broadcast on additional networks not associated with Main Street, providing even more opportunities for pre-game content.

The “whip around” format is gaining traction among various networks, as evidenced by its successful implementation in programs like the NFL’s “Red Zone.” Recently, a deal with Disney has allowed ESPN to acquire the rights to sell Red Zone and innovate upon the concept for new programming elements.

Other network entities have begun exploring similar themes. NBCUniversal offered a “Gold Zone” whip-around during its Winter Olympics coverage, while CBS News recently launched a daytime news program that showcases stories from all of its regional stations.

The primary objective of the new show, according to Williamson, is to equip audiences with everything they need to be ready to watch their games on any given night. “Our local viewers are often very knowledgeable and discerning, so we aim to provide a level of expertise that reflects that,” he emphasizes. With Verrett at the helm, the FanDuel channels will benefit from his extensive background in sports reporting. “His experience with ‘SportsCenter’ and his ability to manage diverse sports topics will be invaluable,” Williamson states.

Verrett expressed his enthusiasm for joining the FanDuel Sports Network, stating, “I’ve always admired the deep passion local fans have for their teams, and I’m excited to help bring that vitality to the screen each night. The opportunity to create meaningful content that resonates with viewers both locally and nationally drew me here. Sports amplify community spirit, and I’m eager to contribute to that energy.”

Williamson is focused on expanding programming around live games, referencing the introduction of “Golic & Golic,” a talk show featuring father-son duo Mike Golic and Mike Golic Jr. “The more content we provide leading up to live events, the better we can serve our audience,” Williamson adds.

Notably, FanDuel Sports Network transitioned from its previous branding under Bally’s amid a restructuring process that began when its predecessor, Diamond Sports Group, filed for bankruptcy in 2023. After emerging from bankruptcy in 2025, the network solidified its new partnership with FanDuel along with a revitalized operational identity. The organization also maintains a stake in the YES Network, home of the New York Yankees.
