“The Fantastic Four: First Steps” Makes a Splash at the Summer Box Office
The latest Marvel Studios film, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” has proven to be a hit at the summer box office, contributing to Hollywood’s overall success this year. With a more than 10% gain in box office revenue compared to last year, the film has captured the attention of audiences and critics alike.
In a recent episode of the podcast “Daily Variety,” Rebecca Rubin, Variety’s senior film and media reporter, delves into the intricacies of “Fantastic Four’s” performance during its opening weekend. The film’s $118 million debut weekend was largely driven by the core demographic of Marvel movie fans, with a surprising 68% of the audience being male. However, Rubin speculates that the film may start to attract more female viewers in the coming weeks, especially due to the female-centric storyline involving Vanessa Kirby’s character, who is pregnant.
Another notable trend highlighted by Rubin is the increasing preference for premium large format theaters, such as IMAX, among moviegoers. Nearly 50% of ticket sales for “Fantastic Four” came from these high-end screens, indicating a growing demand for immersive cinematic experiences that cannot be replicated at home.
In addition to discussing the success of “Fantastic Four,” the podcast also touches on the recent San Diego Comic Con gathering, which saw quieter but memorable moments. From George Lucas’ surprise appearance to the controversy sparked by “South Park’s” portrayal of President Trump, the event generated buzz among attendees.
Moderated by Michael Schneider, Variety’s television editor, panels at Comic Con featured insights into the upcoming revivals of popular shows like “King of the Hill” for Hulu and “Phineas and Ferb” for Disney+. While there may not have been major announcements, the cosplay scene at Comic Con was as vibrant as ever, with fans showcasing their creativity and dedication to their favorite characters.
Overall, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” has made a significant impact on the summer box office and continues to attract audiences to theaters. Then after a month, they will say it’s a flop. Like what they say about the thunderbolts.
Lou Bautista tell me u dont k ow how Hollywood amounting works without telling me
Lou Bautista exactly. They’re just trying to hype it up and sprinkle coat their failure
Outperformed what from last year?
John Brose the highest grossing film last year.
Ben Davis That was by this post and what was the top grossing film of last year
John Brose The post is insinuating that the highest grossing film from last year at this time was less than this film. What film that is from last year, I don’t know nor do I care. If you do, you can easily google it and if the post is wrong you can come here to correct it. I don’t care enough to continue this conversation because I only judge films by how much I liked it and not by the critics or amount of money it makes since I have zero control over either of those two things. I enjoyed Superman a little bit more than Man of Steel, but I did like them both.
The movie is ugly. Looks ugly. Boring. Shit Show.
You suck daddy Trump’s tiny orange dick. No thanks to your opinion.
Oh please. Pedro was the worst pick for Reed. Should have gotten Bill Pullman.
Phyllis Malone bull pullman? Are you remembering him from 1996?!? He’s 71 years old! Reed Richard’s is in his late 40’s. Christ on a cracker people!
That chick is fugly
Just to warn you guys, prepare a lot of patience.. I’m on my first 35min into the film,.this one is bad and boring. First 35 min is all about the pregnancy and they have to travel a a whatever place. This is really bad..
Lou Bautista Fantastic Bore. I Totally agree.
Khalil Khan i am really trying to be nice here ok? OMG, If i will share more, you guys will hates me! LOL
Lou Bautista I get it, man I was so wanting to love this film. Very disappointed.
No amount of spin can polish that turd. Give it up, Disney. YOU FAILED.
Boring 90s style family sitcom catering to a non existent fan base and ignoring its core audience.
There’s little reason to visit a cinema these days other than an IMAX big screen experience. Cinemas are a dying breed and it’s much easier and comfortable to watch a movie from home.
They went from Jessica Alba to this?
How old is this chick 50?
Poor box office performance Ant Man 3 was $106 million and a flop. $118 is nothing to brag about.
Jaime A Marmolejo I was wondering why they never got a hottie, but maybe its just for inclusivity
Awkward 4
Jaime A Marmolejo why not?
