A professor from the University of Chicago with far-left views has been apprehended and faces serious charges after riots at an ICE facility in the city, according to law enforcement officials.

Eman Abdelhadi, an associate professor in the Department of Comparative Human Development at the university, was taken into custody on Friday. She is charged with two counts of aggravated battery against a government employee—a Class 3 felony—and two counts of resisting and obstruction of a peace officer, categorized as a Class A misdemeanor, as reported by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office to Fox News.

Abdelhadi, a radical sociologist who has vocally criticized her employer at a “Socialism 2025” conference, is scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday.

For weeks, leftist demonstrators have been staging protests outside an ICE facility located in Broadview, Illinois, where they’ve blocked traffic and clashed violently with law enforcement.

On Friday, Abdelhadi shared images from the rally on social media, including one of state troopers. She claimed they were “enforcing [President] Trump’s agenda of terrorizing our community with abductions,” as seen on her X account.

The professor previously garnered attention for her explicit criticism of the University of Chicago during a socialist event.

“Screw the University of Chicago, it’s malevolent; you know it’s a colonial landlord. So why should I invest any of my political energy into this environment? I have a bit of contempt for those who do,” she remarked during her speech in July.
