Unlocking the Secrets of Ancient Agricultural Innovation

Discoveries along Israel’s Mediterranean coast have unveiled a remarkable ancient agricultural practice that dates back a millennium. Uncovered plots filled with 80,000 tonnes of waste were ingeniously transformed into fertile soil, enabling successful crop cultivation in the sandy terrain.
This revolutionary method, known as the plot-and-berm system, is believed to be the oldest of its kind and may have laid the foundation for similar oasis-like agricultural sites found in deserts worldwide. According to Joel Roskin from Bar-Ilan University in Israel, these findings shed light on the innovative techniques employed by ancient civilizations to overcome challenging environmental conditions.
