Father of Teen Charged with Murder Accused of Helping Son Hide
Authorities arrested Steven Marquez, 46, the father of a 14-year-old boy charged with murder in the killing of a Denver bar bouncer. Marquez is accused of driving his son to Wyoming to evade capture after the incident, as per police records.
Marquez faces felony charges of being an accessory to a crime and attempting to influence a public servant. Denver police claim he assisted his son in avoiding arrest and provided false information to investigators following the fatal shooting at Federales Denver bar on July 10.
The boy, who remains unnamed due to being a minor, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 49-year-old William “Todd” Kidd, the bar’s bouncer. Kidd was shot during an altercation and passed away two days later.
Marquez’s son was apprehended on July 16 in Casper, Wyoming, where he had altered his appearance in an attempt to conceal his identity. Marquez’s phone records indicated a trip to Wyoming on July 14, with a brief stop near Casper before returning to Denver.
According to reports, Marquez claimed his son would surrender to authorities after speaking to the media about a video of the incident. However, neither Marquez nor his son appeared at the arranged meeting with the police.
Marquez alleged that the charges against his son were unfounded and based on self-defense, citing a video he had seen. He stated his intention to cooperate with law enforcement but failed to provide the mentioned video.
Marquez was arrested on Friday and later released on bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on October 14, while his son’s court date is set for October 15.
