Maximilian Davis: A Modern Interpretation of Italian Elegance
Maximilian Davis is on a mission to capture the essence of Italian elegance—a delicate balance of sprezzatura and sartorial finesse. This art of appearing effortlessly stylish, while meticulously crafting every detail, is a skill that the stylish Florentines have mastered. Drawing inspiration from the Ferragamo archives, Davis brings a contemporary twist to classic Italian sophistication.
For his latest resort collection, Davis delved into the past, blending elements from the roaring ’20s to the bold ’80s. Embracing the idea of heirlooms passed down through generations, he reimagined timeless pieces through his sleek, minimalist aesthetic. The collection aimed to explore the essence of a person’s character, drawing influence from photographer Karen Knorr’s portraits of women in eclectic interiors.
The animalier motif emerged as a central theme in the collection, inspired by a zebra-print throw in one of Knorr’s photographs. This unexpected touch of wildness contrasted with the collection’s muted palette of waxed canvas, sun-faded linen, and luxurious leather. Standout pieces included a cocoa-and-black zebra-print dress with a pleated bodice and flounced skirt, paired with a shearling shrug for a touch of ’80s glamour. Flowy caftans and delicate lace inserts in nude tones added a sensual yet sharp edge to the collection.
In the menswear line, Davis opted for a subtle yet expressive approach, favoring deep, inky blue over traditional black. This nod to the understated sophistication of Italian fashion was evident in a soft jersey three-piece suit with a relaxed, loungewear-inspired feel. The collection embodied a sense of purposeful pajama dressing, blending tailoring with comfort seamlessly.
