MIAMI — FIFA has introduced a new initiative, the FIFA Peace Prize, which will be presented for the first time at the World Cup draw on Dec. 5 in Washington.

The FIFA Peace Prize aims to honor individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to promoting peace, as stated by the soccer governing body. When asked if President Donald Trump will be the inaugural recipient of the award, FIFA President Gianni Infantino remained tight-lipped, teasing that the revelation will happen on Dec. 5.

Speaking at the America Business Forum in Miami, Infantino emphasized the importance of acknowledging those who strive to resolve conflicts and unite people in peace, especially in today’s turbulent world. The award, to be presented by Infantino this year, will become an annual tradition representing fans worldwide.

Despite lobbying efforts and speculation, Trump was not chosen for the Nobel Peace Prize recently. Infantino highlighted his strong bond with Trump and praised the President’s energy and straightforward approach, noting their collaboration on World Cup initiatives.

“I’m really lucky. I have a great relationship with President Trump, who I consider really a close friend,” Infantino said. “Of course, he’s been very, very helpful in everything we do for the World Cup. … He has such an incredible energy and this is something that I really admire. He does things. He does what he says. He says what he thinks. He says, actually, what many people think as well, but maybe don’t dare to say. And that’s why he’s so successful.”

FIFA recently appointed Ivanka Trump to the board of a $100 million education project funded in part by 2026 World Cup ticket sales, further solidifying the connection between FIFA and the Trump family.

The upcoming World Cup draw and the presentation of the peace prize are anticipated to attract approximately 1 billion viewers globally, Infantino revealed.
