Spanish streaming platform Filmin and Belgium’s Boucan Film Production have joined forces for the upcoming series “Robbery, Beating & Death” (“El pitjor atracament de la historia”) produced by Funicular Films, the same team behind the successful series “This is Not Sweden.”
Filmin, known for its upscale SVOD service and extensive collection of classic films, also produces original content and features dedicated country channels such as that of Costa Rica. On the other hand, Boucan Film Production, founded by Boris Van Gils and Michaël Goldberg, focuses on creating audience-driven auteur films with mainstream appeal. With offices in Brussels, Abidjan, and Paris, Boucan has a track record of producing acclaimed films like Stephan Streker’s “Noces” and the Belgian box office hit “Les Rayures du Zèbra.”
The series “Robbery, Beating & Death” revolves around two lifelong friends who are tasked with developing a television series centered on a bank heist. Driven by a desire for recognition and inspired by a mysterious artist, they decide to go beyond fiction and carry out a real bank robbery to prove themselves. Funicular’s Marta Baldó describes the series as a comedic exploration of themes such as friendship, family, loyalty, art, and the complexities of the entertainment industry.
Written and directed by Marcel Borràs and Nao Albet, who also star in the series, “Robbery, Beating & Death” promises to deliver a unique blend of humor and social commentary. The series has received support from ICEC, Catalonia’s cultural agency, through its High-End TV Production Fund, which provides funding for Catalan-language series with a minimum budget requirement.
“This Is Not Sweden,” another project from Funicular Films, has garnered critical acclaim, with awards at Canneseries and Prix Europa for Best European TV Fiction Series. Lead actress Aina Clotet, who also directed her first feature film “Oh Nora!”, continues to make waves in the industry. The series follows the story of a young couple navigating life in a picturesque community near Barcelona.
