The building, measuring 200 metres long and 80 metres wide, is heavily smoke logged. Fire crews from various stations including West Harbour, Kumeū, Te Atatū, Auckland City, Henderson, Parnell, Avondale, Greenhithe, and Ellerslie have been deployed to assist.
A nearby pharmacist reported hearing sirens and seeing multiple fire trucks at the scene. Despite not witnessing any flames, he noted that an aerial appliance was in use. The Mitre 10 Mega store has been closed as a precaution.
According to an RNZ video journalist at the site, the fire appears to be well contained after 8pm, with minimal visible smoke or flames. Trucks and personnel are actively moving in and out of the timber yard entrance. Some smoke can be seen emanating from a roller door near a loading dock.
The situation is currently under control, with authorities working diligently to manage the incident.
