BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

On June 14, 1777, a fabric of red, white, and blue was stitched into the very fabric of our nation when the Second Continental Congress enacted the First Flag Resolution, officially designating our cherished Stars and Stripes as the flag of the nascent Republic. This Flag Day and National Flag Week, we take a moment to honor the star-spangled symbol of our freedom and the nearly 250 years of bravery, sacrifice, and patriotism it has inspired so gloriously.

In the summer of 1777, over two years into a revolutionary struggle and nearly a year after the American Colonies declared independence from Great Britain, the urgency for unity, resilience, and national identity became paramount. On June 14, Congress convened to adopt a significant resolution that unified the Colonies under a remarkable emblem, proclaiming, “the flag of the United States be made of thirteen stripes, alternating red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new Constellation.” Amidst the chaos of revolution, our emblem of freedom was born—a powerful symbol for sovereignty and justice, crafted by human hands.

For nearly 250 years, Old Glory has witnessed every chapter of the American narrative. It proudly waved as General George Washington crossed the Delaware, during President Abraham Lincoln’s address at Gettysburg, and as American forces hoisted it atop Iwo Jima, at the shores of Inchon, and through the jungles of Vietnam. It fluttered on the moon on July 20, 1969, and emerged resilient from the ashes at Ground Zero on September 11, 2001. Time and again, patriots have valiantly defended it against extremist factions eager to tarnish and obliterate its significance.

Through every challenge and triumph, the American flag has remained a steadfast icon of courage, unity, and the relentless belief that nothing can obstruct our beloved homeland, heritage, history, and values. This week, as we express our gratitude for our beautiful flag, we seek God’s ongoing guidance and protection. May the red, white, and blue forever fly over the greatest nation in history, and may it always triumph over those who wish to dismantle it.

To commemorate the adoption of our flag, Congress, through a joint resolution approved on August 3, 1949, designated June 14 as “Flag Day” and requested that the President issue an annual proclamation calling for its observance and the display of the flag at all Federal Government buildings. Additionally, by a joint resolution approved on June 9, 1966, Congress requested that the President annually proclaim the week containing June 14 as “National Flag Week,” urging all citizens of the United States to display the flag during that week.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim June 14, 2025, as Flag Day, and the week beginning June 8, 2025, as National Flag Week. I instruct the relevant officials to display the flag on all Federal Government buildings during this week and encourage all Americans to honor Flag Day and National Flag Week by proudly displaying the flag. Furthermore, I invite the people of the United States to ceremoniously observe the days from Flag Day through Independence Day, which Congress set aside (89 Stat. 211) as a time to celebrate America, engage in public gatherings and activities, and publicly recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.
