A tragic incident unfolded in Florida this week as a father was arrested for the death of his 5-week-old daughter. Dajuan Patrick, a resident of Jacksonville, was charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child more than a year after his infant, Dahlia Siebenhaar, passed away. The Volusia Sheriff’s Office revealed that Dahlia was rushed to the hospital on December 2, 2024, in a critical condition, with severe injuries.
The autopsy and medical records uncovered the extent of the baby’s injuries, including serious head trauma, broken ribs, bruises all over her body, and bleeding behind her eyes. Investigators determined that these injuries were a result of the baby being shaken and held with extreme force. Despite fighting for her life for 10 days, Dahlia was eventually taken off life support, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Patrick, 27, was reportedly caring for Dahlia at home when the fatal incident occurred, while her mother was resting. Initially, he claimed ignorance about how his daughter got injured, but later changed his story, alleging that he had tripped over a bag and landed on the baby. The suspect, with his distinctive blue hair, appeared emotionless in his mugshot.
It remains unclear why there was a delay in arresting Patrick, who is now being held without bond in Jacksonville and awaiting extradition to Volusia County. Sheriff Mike Chitwood expressed that while Dahlia’s life cannot be brought back, her story deserves to be told, and justice must be served for her.
The tragic events that unfolded in this case serve as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding children and ensuring their well-being. The sheriff’s office has yet to provide further details on the case.
