A Florida man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for raping a 13-year-old girl, who was a family friend, and then forcing her to take emergency contraception. Robert McGuire Jr., 34, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery on a minor aged 12 to 18 years old. He will also have to register as a sex offender and complete 10 years of sex offender probation after serving his sentence.
The assaults took place in October 2021 over two consecutive days while McGuire was staying with the victim’s family. He had been residing in a spare room in their house for about six months, according to authorities. The victim bravely reported the assaults to a trusted adult, leading to McGuire’s arrest.
During the assaults, McGuire threatened the victim, telling her he would kill her if she spoke to anyone about what happened. He also forced her to take Plan B, a morning-after pill, to prevent pregnancy. Surveillance footage from a CVS showed McGuire purchasing the pill.

McGuire initially denied the allegations against him but DNA evidence linked him to the crime scene, providing crucial evidence for his prosecution. The judge, prosecutors, and law enforcement officials all commended the victim for her bravery in coming forward and seeking justice.
