Last week, a significant barrier to merit-based hiring in the federal workforce was dismantled, paving the way for President Donald J. Trump to fulfill yet another pivotal promise: to elevate the standards that taxpayers rightfully expect from their government services.

“A longstanding court order that previously prevented the federal government from employing tests to evaluate the skills of job applicants was terminated by a D.C. judge last Friday. ‘We’re making civil service great again,’ stated OPM Director Scott Kupor in an interview with The Daily Wire on Friday.

The recent shift enables the implementation of technocratic hiring processes, allowing the government to select candidates based on demonstrable skills and competencies. Kupor elaborated that this change could lead to enhanced service delivery at government agencies, making them more efficient and responsive to the public. […]

‘We’ll be in a position to attract highly qualified individuals because they will be assessed fairly based on their merits,’ he explained. ‘This also significantly reduces the risk of bias in hiring if objective criteria are utilized.’

‘This represents a victory for fairness, as well as a means of ensuring that the American populace has access to skilled personnel in the appropriate roles.’”
