For over a decade, British billionaire hedge-fund manager Christopher Hohn has been discreetly pouring hundreds of millions into American politics. Although federal law forbids foreign nationals from directly or indirectly influencing U.S. elections, Hohn has emerged as one of the most prominent violators of this prohibition.
Through his London-based nonprofit, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), Hohn has funneled over $553 million into U.S. organizations from 2014 to 2023.

These substantial funds did not support altruistic causes; rather, they were directed towards pushing radical left-wing policy agendas, including climate demonstrations, litigation against fossil fuel companies, and campaigns to ban natural gas stoves. Much of this financing has funneled through the Arabella Advisors dark-money network, which underwrites progressive activism across the nation.
CIFF’s deep connections raise alarming questions. The organization is closely linked to Communist China. Its CEO is a member of the International Green Development Coalition, an initiative closely related to China’s Belt and Road framework. This coalition’s activities are monitored by high-ranking officials from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Unsurprisingly, Hohn’s foundation has recognized CCP officials with “Friendship Awards,” a gesture that clearly indicates alignment with Beijing’s ambitions.
While Democrats in Washington remain largely indifferent, a foreign billionaire with ties to the CCP is allowed to underwrite groups that significantly influence America’s energy strategy. Hohn’s foundation, by funding climate litigation and pressure tactics, has actively worked to erode U.S. energy independence, placing America in a position of vulnerability and dependence on foreign adversaries.
Democratic leaders vocalize apprehensions about alleged “foreign interference” in U.S. elections, yet they willingly accept contributions from foreign billionaires who finance their policy initiatives.
From the West Coast to the nation’s capital, progressive nonprofits powered by CIFF funds have escalated debates surrounding climate change and social justice, all while operating in the shadows with minimal oversight or regulation.
The Trump administration aimed to reclaim U.S. energy supremacy by terminating the hostilities against fossil fuels, reducing burdensome regulations, and ensuring that American workers—rather than foreign billionaires—define our policy agenda.
President Trump recognized that energy independence is a matter of national security.
Today, Democrats are reversing that hard-fought progress, often with the assistance of foreign funds like those controlled by Hohn.
It is imperative for Congress to intervene and shut down this pipeline of foreign cash. We must enact reforms to seal loopholes that permit foreign donors to obscure their influence via U.S. nonprofits.
Without stringent oversight, American sovereignty will continue to be compromised by billionaires whose agendas favor Beijing over Washington.
Americans deserve leaders dedicated to the interests of their country.
President Trump has clarified that under his leadership, foreign billionaires will not dictate our destiny. The future of this nation will be determined by the American populace—not by Christopher Hohn, the Arabella Advisors, and certainly not by the Chinese Communist Party.
