The Democratic Divide: Zohran Mamdani’s Ascendancy
Within the Democratic Party, a schism has emerged over the controversial figure of Zohran Mamdani. On one side, the far-left faction celebrates his meteoric rise; on the other, more traditional party members are left quaking in their boots.
Mark Penn, a former pollster for the Clintons, firmly belongs to the latter camp. In a recent appearance on FOX News, he labeled Mamdani’s primary victory as a â911 momentâ for the Democratic Party.
Penn further posits that the convoluted nature of ranked choice voting significantly contributed to Mamdani’s win.

Mark Penn Warns: Mamdani Represents a â911 Moment for the Democratic Partyâ
Mark Penn, a long-time advisor to the Clintons, shared his concerns regarding Zohran Mamdaniâs victory in the New York City Democratic mayoral primary, calling it a â911 momentâ for the party. In an interview on Fox Newsâs âAmericaâs Newsroom,â he urged those worried about Mamdaniâs potential November success to focus on his refusal to denounce calls for âglobalizing the intifadaâ alongside his radical economic policies.
âThis is a 911 moment for the Democratic Party, in the sense that heâs an antisemitic socialist,â Penn asserted when discussing tactical strategies for opposing him.
âYou need to address both aspects because he has not distanced himself from the global intifada rhetoric, nor has he rejected his proposals to seize the means of production,â Penn elaborated. âHe might be the most extreme major candidate ever to secure such a significant position.â

Penn recently took to Twitter/X to amplify his concerns:
Mamdani Alert
Zohran Mamdani is a blend of socialism, antisemitism, and Marxism, cleverly packaged to resonate with a social media generation that often lacks historical perspective and a grasp of reality.
Ironically, his support stems from individuals like himselfâaffluent, educated young people who have reaped the benefits of a system that has provided for them. Yet, they remain oblivious to how socialism can lead to the very authoritarian collapse of the freedoms they currently enjoy.
Mamdani Alert
Zohran Mamdani is a fusion of socialism, antisemitism and Marxism dressed up to appeal to a social media generation that has become disconnected from history and reality.
The irony is that his support comes from people like himself â well off, well educated youngâŠ

Indeed, it appears that the hipster socialists of Brooklyn played a crucial role in propelling Mamdani’s candidacy. Penn’s assertion rings true; Mamdani’s backing largely comes from affluent, over-educated white liberals.
In the words of comedian David Angelo, âI wish I grew up rich enough to be a socialist.â
