A former Houston mayoral appointee, Sade Perkins, caused outrage by claiming that Camp Mystic, a Texas girls camp devastated by deadly flooding, was “white-only.” This statement came in the wake of a tragedy that resulted in the deaths of at least five campers, with 11 more still missing.
Perkins made these controversial remarks in a video on her private TikTok account, stating, “If you ainât white you ainât right, you ainât gettinâ in, you ainât goinâ. Period.” Her comments sparked widespread condemnation as the death toll from the flooding in Texas continued to rise.
Perkins also insinuated that if the victims were from minority groups, the situation would not receive the same level of attention and care. She criticized the lack of diversity at the camp and suggested that the response would be different for Hispanic girls in a similar situation.
Following these inflammatory comments, Perkins faced repercussions, with Houston Mayor John Whitmire stating that he has no intention of reappointing her due to her inappropriate remarks.
Despite the backlash, Perkins continued to defend her stance in subsequent videos, further exacerbating the controversy. Whitmire emphasized that such divisive rhetoric has no place in society.
The incident at Camp Mystic, a camp with deep ties to Texas’ political elite, including former First Lady Laura Bush, highlighted the importance of diversity and inclusivity in all spaces, especially during times of crisis.
How did this racist ever get appointed to anything! CHRISTIANS COME IN ALL THE COLOURS GOD CREATED! Only a racist would look at this tragedy and see just black and white!
