Darron Lee, a former first-round draft pick for the New York Jets, has been arrested and charged in Tennessee for allegedly murdering his girlfriend.
According to multiple outlets, police were called to a home near Ooltewah, where CPR was in progress.
Upon arrival, the victim was found, but despite efforts to save her, she tragically passed away from her injuries.
Police investigations suggest that the death was a homicide. Darron Lee was identified as the suspect and was taken into custody at the scene.
Lee has been charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. He is currently held without bond and is scheduled for a court appearance on Wednesday.
After a successful college career at The Ohio State University, which included a national championship in 2014, Darron Lee was drafted by the New York Jets as the 20th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He played three seasons with the Jets, accumulating 241 total tackles, 17 for a loss, and four sacks.
In 2019, Lee joined the Kansas City Chiefs for one season, where he recorded 31 tackles in 16 games. He later signed with the Buffalo Bills and played two games for the team.
This is not the first time the 31-year-old has been in trouble with the law. In 2023, he was arrested for assault and domestic violence in Ohio, to which he pleaded guilty as part of a plea deal.
