Four previously unreleased demo tracks by legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix are set to be auctioned off in London, along with a collection of memorabilia that includes dry-cleaning receipts, paperwork, and tour itineraries. The auction, organized by Propstore, a vendor specializing in pop culture memorabilia, offers a unique opportunity for fans to own a piece of music history.
The four demo tracks, which include “Up From the Skies,” “Ain’t No Telling,” “Little Miss Lover,” and “Stone Free,” were recorded in 1968 and are expected to fetch around $261,000. These recordings provide a rare glimpse into Hendrix’s creative process and offer a different sound and composition compared to the versions that were officially released. According to music consultant Mark Hochman, who works with Propstore, these demos showcase Hendrix’s signature guitar skills and are considered superior to other recordings of the same songs.
The material up for auction was collected by Patricia Sullivan, who worked as a personal assistant to Hendrix’s manager, Mike Jeffery, in the 1960s. Sullivan played a key role in coordinating studio sessions, organizing tours, and managing various aspects of Hendrix’s career. After Jeffery’s death in 1973, Sullivan preserved a treasure trove of tapes and archival material, keeping it hidden for over 50 years.
In addition to the demo tracks, the auction includes handwritten notes from Hendrix, dry-cleaning slips for his iconic stage costumes, and a collection of candid photographs capturing the musician’s life on and off stage. The artifacts offer a glimpse into Hendrix’s flamboyant lifestyle, with items such as eviction notices from his London apartment and bills from a doctor suggesting a tumultuous period in the late 1960s.
Propstore plans to auction off the entire collection in mid-November, alongside memorabilia from other music legends such as Oasis, Queen, and John Lennon. According to Hochman, the Hendrix artifacts represent a significant piece of rock history, providing a window into a pivotal moment in music history.
The auction is a rare opportunity for fans and collectors to own a piece of music history and celebrate the legacy of one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Don’t miss your chance to own a piece of rock and roll history at this exclusive auction event.
