However, the company is now venturing into a new realm with a strategic investment in The Lighthouse, a studio and campus dedicated to creators, as part of the Whalar Group’s portfolio. In a similar move earlier this year, Fox Corp. announced the acquisition of Red Seat Ventures, a digital media company that supports independent news personalities like Megyn Kelly, Bill O’Reilly, and Tucker Carlson.
Stephano Kim, Chief Strategy and Operations Officer of Fox Advertising, emphasized the importance of working closely with creators from an early stage to help them develop their franchises. Rather than simply partnering with creators based on their popularity, Fox aims to foster meaningful collaborations and offer advertisers the opportunity to engage with creators in a more authentic way.
The creator economy is rapidly growing, with Goldman Sachs estimating its value to be $250 billion in 2023 and projected to reach $480 billion by 2027. This growth is fueled by increased digital media consumption and advancements in technology that make content creation more accessible.
The Lighthouse operates two campuses, one near Los Angeles and the other in Brooklyn, offering co-working spaces and resources to creators for a membership fee. The focus is on providing creators with a space for experimentation and development of commerce, intellectual property, and entertainment franchises.
