During a discussion about President Donald Trump’s economic agenda, Fox News host Trey Gowdy made a “Silence of the Lambs”-inspired quip to critique the fallout from the administration’s tariffs. Gowdy, a Republican former South Carolina congressman, compared watching the movie “Silence of the Lambs” to looking at the stock market, which he found less scary.

Gowdy pointed out that despite the president’s insistence on tariffs, other countries are also implementing retaliatory measures, leading to market instability. “So, where does that leave us?” Gowdy pondered.

Forbes Editor-in-Chief Steve Forbes advised against focusing too much on the “Hannibal” aspect of the situation, in reference to the fictional character Hannibal Lecter from the 1991 horror film. The uncertainty surrounding the tariffs has caused businesses and individuals to pause their plans, highlighting the need for a significant tax cut bill to boost the economy.
