Alex Honnold is embarking on an exciting new venture.
The fearless climber, famous for his breathtaking ascent featured in the Oscar-winning documentary “Free Solo,” is set to host a travel series that will take place in Nevada, his home state.
Slated to premiere in 2026 on the Outside network, the five-episode series titled “Get a Little Out There With Alex Honnold,” will showcase his adventures around the Silver State as he travels in his van, tackling a list of dream experiences. The show promises to blend outdoor exploration with cultural insights and the quirky roadside attractions that Nevada offers. According to the logline, “It highlights how disconnecting from our everyday lives to explore new landscapes—like gazing at 4,500 visible stars in Great Basin National Park or searching for turquoise to craft jewelry in central Nevada—can provide a fresh perspective on our world and ourselves.”
Collaborating with Travel Nevada, the series is being executive produced by David Klimek and Jeff Moore and directed by J.J. Kelley.
Honnold has gained acclaim as the first individual to successfully free solo the 3,000-foot “Freerider” route on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, a climb regarded as one of the pinnacle achievements in athletics, vividly captured in “Free Solo.”
In addition, Variety recently reported on Honnold’s next extraordinary challenge: scaling Taiwan’s Taipei 101 skyscraper. This thrilling ascent of the 1,667-foot structure will be documented for a live broadcast on Netflix, expected to air in early 2026.
Honnold expressed his enthusiasm about the series, stating, “Participating in this show is fantastic for me. My passion for adventure aligns perfectly with Nevada’s spirit. Red Rock has played a significant role in my life, yet Nevada continually surprises me with its plethora of sights and activities. I can’t wait to uncover the hidden gems of this state and share what makes it truly unique.”
Rafael Villanueva, CEO of Travel Nevada, remarked: “Our brand’s mantra is ‘Get a Little Out There,’ making Alex Honnold the ideal ambassador for showcasing how to experience that. For years, he has been an unofficial spokesperson for Nevada, highlighting the exceptional climbing experiences available in his home state. We are excited to collaborate with him and Outside to unveil the incredible spirit of Nevada and the undiscovered treasures it holds.”
Sam Moulton, VP of creative strategy and solutions at Outside, added, “From cowboy poetry and clown hotels to unique culinary delights and turquoise mining, Nevada’s vibrant culture is as surprising as it is amazing. The state boasts wild landscapes, including secluded climbing spots and top-tier mountain biking trails, making it a perfect fit for the Outside network. Alex is the ideal host to guide us through these experiences with his curiosity and adventurous spirit.”
