Tchéky Karyo, the beloved French actor known for his roles in popular TV shows and movies, passed away on October 31st after a battle with cancer. He was 72 years old at the time of his death, as reported by AFP.
Born in Istanbul in 1953, Karyo’s family relocated to Paris when he was young. He honed his acting skills at the Cyrano Theatre and later became a part of the Daniel Sorano Company. His career took off when he joined the National Theatre of Strasbourg and started appearing in French films, including standout performances in “The Bear” and “La Femme Nikita.”
In the 1990s, Karyo transitioned to Hollywood and starred in a number of high-profile films. He portrayed memorable characters such as the title role in “Nostradamus,” a villain in “Bad Boys,” and a French officer in “The Patriot.” He also appeared in blockbuster hits like “GoldenEye” and “1492: Conquest of Paradise.”
Throughout the 2000s, Karyo continued to showcase his talent in both American and French cinema. In 2014, he took on the role of detective Julien Baptiste in “The Missing,” a role that he reprised in the spinoff series “Baptiste” from 2019 to 2021. His most recent appearance was in the French comedy film “Faster.”
Aside from his acting career, Karyo was also a musician and songwriter, having released two albums. He was married twice, first to actress Isabelle Pasco and later to actress Valérie Keruzoré in 2002. He is survived by Keruzoré and their two children, Louise and Liv.
Tchéky Karyo’s passing is a great loss to the entertainment industry, but his legacy will live on through his incredible body of work. May he rest in peace.
