JiSook Jung, a Seoul-based artist, has always been fascinated by the malleability of clay. She finds that clay allows her to quickly translate her thoughts into visual forms due to its soft and plastic nature. Jung’s artwork features abstracted beings with minimal facial features, often resembling elements of nature like clouds, flames, and waves. Each piece evokes a sense of the organic and the elemental.

One of Jung’s recurring themes is the exploration of universal human experiences such as dreams, possibilities, and ego. In her piece “Potential,” for example, a pink form stands on four legs, hinting at a potential transformation into something new. Recently, Jung has shifted her focus from figurative representations to more abstract creatures, emphasizing textures and colors in her work.

After a personal experience that deeply impacted her life, Jung felt inspired to explore new directions in her art. She describes this shift as shedding an old shell and embracing a new world of creativity. Jung is set to open a solo exhibition on November 16 at Simple Object in Taipei, showcasing her latest creations.

Her artwork, such as “Walking Daydream,” “Mass of Ego,” “Burn Green,” “Potential,” “Free Animal,” “Wind,” and others, reflects her exploration of emotions, transformations, and the beauty of the natural world. Each piece tells a unique story and invites viewers to contemplate the deeper meanings behind the abstract forms.
