A fugitive teen gunman has been apprehended and charged with the murder of a 57-year-old Bronx man, Kevin Jennings, who was killed in a shooting incident back in May. Brandon Sullivan, 18, was taken into custody during a probation meeting by the NYPD’s Violent Crime Task Force.
The shooting took place on May 18 in Fordham Heights, where Sullivan allegedly opened fire at East 188th Street and Marion Avenue. Jennings was fatally shot in the head, while a 34-year-old woman, who was simply passing by, was also injured in the leg. Both victims were rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where Jennings succumbed to his injuries, and the woman was listed in stable condition.
According to Jennings’ family, he was not the intended target of the shooting. He was described as an innocent bystander who was at a nearby bodega getting something to eat and sitting outside in his chair when the incident occurred. The family expressed their shock and sorrow over the senseless violence that took Jennings’ life.
The motive behind the shooting has not been clearly established by authorities as of yet. Sullivan has been charged with two counts of murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon in connection to the incident. His arraignment was pending as of Thursday evening.
Details about Sullivan’s previous case that led to him being on probation have not been disclosed. The community is reeling from the tragic loss of Jennings and the random act of violence that took place on that fateful day. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the pervasive issue of gun violence in society and the devastating impact it can have on innocent lives.
